bulletRestitution

JAG has the responsibility of collecting court-ordered restitution payments on probation matters. Payments collected from probationers are then disbursed to beneficiaries designated by the courts.  The introduction of a fully automated restitution accounting system has dramatically increased collection rates.

Judicial Alternatives of Georgia collects and disburses restitution payments when restitution is imposed as a special condition of a probation sentence. The restitution payments compensate victims for their losses resulting from a criminal act. JAG's Restitution Unit is responsible for collecting these payments, as well as, court-ordered surcharges or administrative fees. Probationers who fail to make timely payments face the possibility of being violated and having their probation sentence revoked.  The restitution payments are disbursed to the beneficiaries on a monthly basis and the surcharge is forwarded to the city's General Fund. Occasionally, we are unable to locate a victim(s) after restitution has been paid. JAG is mandated by law to place "undistributed [unclaimed] monies" in an interest-bearing account. the interest that accrues and the undistributed monies are designated for the payment of Restitution Orders that have remained unsatisfied for a period of time.  If you believe that you or your organization has been awarded restitution by the court and your claim remains unsatisfied in whole or in part, or if you have any questions regarding this program, please write to:
